Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by former CD Projekt Red developers, is working on a new open-world vampire RPG titled Blood of Dawnwalker.
Despite being a smaller team, the studio aims to deliver a game on the same quality level as The Witcher 3, which Rebel Wolves’ creative director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz worked on as lead quest designer.
Quality Over Size
In a recent interview, Tomaszkiewicz made it clear that the studio isn’t concerned about labels like AA, AAA, or AAAA for their game.
What truly matters to him is maintaining a high standard of quality. Drawing from his experience with The Witcher 3, he emphasized that while the scale of Blood of Dawnwalker won’t match larger titles like it, the game will be polished and robust, even if it’s on a smaller scale.
“We’re aiming for the quality level of The Witcher 3,” Tomaszkiewicz explained. However, he also acknowledged that the game’s campaign length will be much shorter, targeting around 30-40 hours of playtime, unlike the 100+ hour expanses seen in larger games.
A More Manageable Experience
Tomaszkiewicz, who believes modern games are often too long, expressed relief that Blood of Dawnwalker would offer a more concise experience without sacrificing depth.
“There are AAA games like Call of Duty that aren’t 100+ hours long, and no one would consider them AA or indie just because of the length,” he said.
Ambitious Worldbuilding
The vampire RPG will feature an open-world dark fantasy setting with a unique approach to time as a resource in its narrative.
With a focus on player choice, it promises to offer a narrative sandbox where players’ decisions will significantly impact the story.
Though fans are eager to see more, the team at Rebel Wolves is taking their time, and the game will be showcased in greater detail later this year during a summer gameplay presentation.
