If you own an iPhone or Android device, you need to update your phone immediately. Both Apple and Google have issued critical security updates after reports of attacks targeting these devices.
The deadline to update your phone is fast approaching, and if you miss it, you risk being exposed to cyberattacks.
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the U.S. government’s cyber defense body, has warned that all smartphone users should update their phones within the next three weeks to avoid these threats.
The updates must be installed by specific deadlines: February 26 for Android users and March 5 for iPhone users.
Why the Urgency?
The security vulnerabilities affecting both iPhones and Android phones are being actively exploited by attackers. Google warned Android users about CVE-2024-53104, a vulnerability that could potentially harm your device.
Meanwhile, Apple highlighted CVE-2025-24200, which has already been used in sophisticated attacks on specific targets.
For Android users, the Pixel update is already available, but other Android devices may still need to receive the update.
As for iPhone users, the issue affects USB Restricted Mode, a security feature meant to protect against physical data extraction from locked phones. Apple urges users to update to iOS 18.3.1 at a minimum.
What’s at Stake?
If you fail to update your device by the deadlines, CISA recommends stopping use of your phone until the update can be applied.
This is not just a recommendation for federal employees but for all phone users, as both Google and Apple are taking these threats seriously.
Other Devices Affected
Windows users are also affected by vulnerabilities that could compromise their systems. CISA has set a March 4th deadline for updating Windows 10 and Windows 11 to fix critical issues, including potential device hijacking and instability risks.
