Sony Announces Day-One Games for PlayStation Plus

In a major shift in strategy, PlayStation Plus is now offering day-one game releases, a feature that has been highly popular with Xbox Game Pass.

This move marks a significant change for Sony, which has previously avoided this approach. The latest State of Play presentation revealed that PlayStation Plus subscribers will soon have access to new games on the very day they are released.

The first game to take advantage of this new offering is Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, developed by Life is Strange creator Don’t Nod. The game will be released in two parts, with the first part launching on February 18 and the second part arriving on April 15.

The story centers around four high school friends reuniting after 27 years, with players making decisions that influence the direction of the plot. Both parts will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers.

Additionally, PlayStation Plus subscribers can look forward to Blue Prince, a first-person puzzle game where rooms shift and rearrange themselves as players explore buildings. This indie game, published by Raw Fury, is set to release in the spring.

Furthermore, Abiotic Factor, a survival FPS currently in early access on Steam, will also be added to PlayStation Plus this summer. The game supports one to six players and offers diverse biomes and realms to explore together.

While PlayStation has previously offered a few day-one releases, this new announcement signals a larger commitment to offering more content for subscribers without requiring them to purchase full-price games.

Although these titles may not be AAA blockbusters, they represent a significant step in expanding PlayStation Plus’ offerings. If successful, this could pave the way for even more day-one releases for subscribers, making it a more affordable way to enjoy new games.
