In response to widespread backlash, NetEase has canceled the controversial midseason rank reset in Marvel Rivals.
Originally set to go into effect with the upcoming patch, this rank reset sparked anger across the game’s community. Players voiced concerns about the added pressure and frustration of having to climb back from Bronze rank every midseason.
Following a Dev Talk 10 post discussing the change, players took to platforms like Reddit, X (formerly Twitter), and the game’s Discord server, criticizing the reset’s impact on gameplay and match quality.
Many players noted that frequent resets would discourage them from engaging in the game, especially if they lacked the time to grind up the ranks.
NetEase took the criticism seriously and decided to abandon the rank reset for future midseason patches.
While the Blood Shield Invisible Woman skin (a cosmetic reward for reaching Gold rank) will still be offered, players will no longer have to repeatedly climb ranks to earn it. However, season resets will still occur at the start of each new season.
The midseason patch will now focus on adding Thing and Human Torch to the roster, alongside a list of balance changes. The patch will go live on February 21, 2025.
Players have praised NetEase for listening to feedback and making quick adjustments, with many commenting on how the decision was a positive step for the community.
