OpenAI has recently introduced a new feature to ChatGPT, enhancing its capabilities as a general-purpose digital assistant.

This new Tasks feature allows users to set up automated tasks and reminders. Initially available to paying subscribers in beta, OpenAI plans to make it available to all users in the future.

How the ChatGPT Tasks Feature Works

The ChatGPT Tasks feature lets you schedule tasks, enabling the AI to perform actions for you automatically.

Whether you need reminders or want to automate actions like checking flight prices or receiving news updates, ChatGPT can handle it.

The feature works across devices—on the web, mobile apps, and macOS desktop apps. OpenAI has also confirmed that the Windows version will be available soon.

When a task is completed, ChatGPT sends a notification. You can adjust your settings to manage when and how you get these alerts. Tasks will run even when ChatGPT is not open, as long as the apps have notification permissions.

You can set up tasks for anything ChatGPT is capable of doing, such as generating images or sending reminders. Tasks appear alongside your regular conversations and can be shared, archived, or deleted when necessary.

How to Use ChatGPT Tasks

To start using ChatGPT Tasks, follow these simple steps:

  • On the web or desktop app, select the version with scheduled tasks from the model picker at the top left corner.
  • On mobile, tap the model picker at the top of the conversation panel.

The first time you use the feature, ChatGPT will suggest some examples to help you get started.

You can give ChatGPT simple instructions using natural language. For example, saying “tell me a funny joke every Thursday at 3 p.m.” will prompt ChatGPT to follow your request. You can also set up reminders for events like birthdays or ask for weekly summaries of the latest tech news.

To edit or pause a task, click the three dots next to it on the web or desktop app. On mobile, you can only pause tasks. In the web app, you can manage all your scheduled tasks under the profile menu.

Additionally, you can control your notification preferences by selecting whether you want push notifications, emails, or both.

With ChatGPT’s new Tasks feature, you can automate reminders and tasks to stay organized. Whether it’s for simple reminders or creative prompts, this feature will make your digital assistant even more useful.
