Apple Watch owners, if you’ve experienced battery swelling issues, you might be eligible for a payout as part of a $20 million class-action settlement.
The lawsuit, which involved Apple Watches from the Original, Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3 models, claimed that the batteries in these devices could swell over time, potentially causing damage to key components like the display.
Although Apple denied any wrongdoing, the company agreed to settle the case to avoid further litigation. In a statement, Apple reiterated that its products are “designed to be safe and reliable.”
Do You Qualify for the Payout?
To qualify for compensation, you must have owned one of the affected models in the U.S. and reported battery swelling issues between April 24, 2015, and February 6, 2024. This could include filing a complaint with Apple’s customer service.
How Much Could You Get?
The payout varies depending on the number of claims submitted. Compensation will range from $20 to $50. Some eligible users will receive a notice via email or postcard, but anyone who believes they’re eligible can also file a claim on the settlement website.
How to File a Claim
To claim your compensation, visit the settlement website and submit your request by April 10, 2025. You’ll need to scan a QR code and choose your preferred payment method, which could be a physical check, electronic check, ACH transfer, or virtual prepaid Visa or MasterCard.
If you didn’t receive a notice but believe you’re eligible, you can still file a claim via email.
By accepting the settlement, you waive the right to pursue further legal action against Apple regarding the battery issue.
