GTA 6 Won’t Be Playable for Millions at Launch—Here’s Why

GTA 6

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will launch later this year, but not everyone will get to play it.

PC gamers and last-gen console users will have to wait, and it could be a long time before they get access.

No PC Release Date Yet

Rockstar announced GTA 6 in December 2023 and confirmed it will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, more than a year later, the company still hasn’t revealed a release date for the PC version.

Based on Rockstar’s past releases, it could take over a year for the game to arrive on PC. GTA V launched on PC 19 months after its console debut, and Red Dead Redemption 2 took 13 months. If history repeats, PC gamers might not see GTA 6 until 2026.

A Pattern of Delayed PC Releases

Rockstar has a long history of prioritizing console releases before bringing games to PC.

  • GTA V: Released on consoles in 2013, came to PC in 2015 (19-month wait).
  • Red Dead Redemption 2: Launched on consoles in 2018, arrived on PC in 2019 (13-month wait).
  • Red Dead Redemption (Original): First released in 2010, but took 14 years to arrive on PC in 2024.
  • GTA IV (2008): The only major Rockstar game to launch on PC and consoles in the same year.

Unless Rockstar surprises fans, it looks like GTA 6 will follow the same pattern.

When Will GTA 6 Come to PC?

There is still no official confirmation on when GTA 6 will release for PC. If Rockstar follows its usual strategy, PC players might have to wait at least a year.

With GTA 6 expected to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in late 2025, a PC release before 2026 seems unlikely. Until then, PC gamers will have to wait—or buy a console.
