Apple is shaking up its iPhone 17 lineup by replacing the Plus model with the all-new iPhone 17 Air.
This device is set to introduce a sleek new design and features that could attract both Pro and base model users.
The iPhone 17 Air follows Apple’s M4 iPad Pro trend, prioritizing thinness. At just 5.5mm at its thinnest point, it will be the thinnest iPhone ever, significantly slimmer than the 8.25mm iPhone 16 Pro.
Positioned between the 6.3-inch Pro and 6.9-inch Pro Max, the 17 Air features a 6.6-inch display—a potential sweet spot for users.
Additionally, it will introduce either a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate or a 90Hz version for smoother animations.
Apple is splitting its chips again, with the A19 for the 17 Air and base model, while the A19 Pro powers the Pro models.
The 17 Air will also be the first iPhone (alongside the SE 4) to feature Apple’s in-house 5G modem, replacing Qualcomm’s chips.
Unlike past niche models like the iPhone mini and Plus, the 17 Air appears to be a mainstream redesign that could redefine future iPhone models.
With its ultra-thin body, mid-size display, and new modem, it may be the most unique non-Pro iPhone in years.
