Apple is expected to release a new M4-powered iPad Air this spring, according to reports. The company will skip the M3 chip to keep the iPad Air in line with the latest iPad Pro and Mac models.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed that Apple’s next iPad Air, identified by code names J607, J608, J637, and J638, will focus on spec upgrades rather than major design changes.
Apple’s choice to move directly to the M4 chip marks a shift in its usual update pattern.
Why Skip M3?
Apple’s decision may surprise some, but Gurman suggests it makes sense. Most Mac models now share the same chip family, and Apple could be extending this strategy to iPads.
The M4 chip will likely give the iPad Air faster speeds and better performance, making it more competitive with the iPad Pro.
The Last iPad Air Update
Apple last updated the iPad Air in May 2024, introducing the M2-powered version in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes.
