Apple’s latest iOS 18.3 update brings a hidden feature: support for Starlink’s direct-to-cell service on T-Mobile in the U.S.

This service, which launched in beta last month, allows iPhone 14 and later models on T-Mobile to send text messages, contact emergency services, and share locations in areas without cell coverage.

The new feature works automatically without needing to point the phone at a satellite. Once connected, users will see a T-Mobile SpaceX status indicator on their device.

Previously, iPhone users could only contact emergency services via satellite through Globalstar, the default provider.

During the beta phase, the service is free, and T-Mobile will announce commercial pricing later this year.

Future plans include satellite voice calls and data connections, with expansion beyond the U.S. through global roaming partners and SpaceX.
