RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 Buyers Camp Out Ahead of January 30 Launch

Gamers and GPU enthusiasts are already lining up at Micro Center locations, three days before the official release of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080.

Tents have been spotted outside the Tustin, California store, with more expected to join as the launch date nears.

Why the Early Campouts?

Camping out for new Nvidia GPUs has become a tradition, especially for high-demand models like the RTX 5090. This trend was seen with previous releases, including the RTX 30-series and RTX 40-series, when GPU shortages and scalpers caused availability issues.

By camping out, buyers aim to avoid scalper prices and ensure they get their hands on the new GPUs before they sell out.

Potential for Supply Issues

The RTX 50 series is expected to face similar challenges. Scalpers are already charging twice to three times the MSRP for RTX 5090s, and overseas retailers are selling custom models well above MSRP.

Reports suggest that retailers like OCUK are holding very limited stock, with fewer than 10 RTX 5090s in inventory.

Launch Details

The RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 will officially launch on January 30, with a starting price of $1,999 and $999, respectively.

Reviews for the RTX 5090 are already out, while RTX 5080 reviews are expected by February 29. The RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 will launch later in February.
