Samsung has released its first security update for 2025, addressing both Android and Samsung-specific vulnerabilities.
While the update includes critical fixes for Android’s core system, Samsung’s rollout process remains slow, frustrating many users who envy Apple’s faster updates.
Devices like the S21, S22, S23, and S24 are still receiving December’s fixes, with the update expected to roll out gradually across regions and carriers.
However, the upcoming Galaxy S25 launch is expected to change this process. For the first time, Samsung will introduce seamless updates, similar to those available on Google’s Pixel devices.
This A/B update system will allow S25 users to receive updates in the background without requiring a full device reboot.
The January 2025 update includes five critical Android fixes, with one vulnerability that could allow remote code execution.
Although Samsung hasn’t issued critical updates of its own this month, some undisclosed items in the security update suggest further important fixes.
As attention shifts to the S25, Samsung is aiming to narrow the security and privacy gap with Apple, alongside advancing its Galaxy AI capabilities.
With the S25 launch scheduled for January 22, users are eagerly awaiting the seamless updates and the new Android 15 features that will accompany it.
