AMD has announced a range of new processors during its CES 2025 presentation. The company revealed updates for desktops, laptops, and handheld gaming PCs, as well as a preview of its next-generation graphics and FSR image upscaling technology.
New Ryzen 9000 Series Desktop Processors
AMD introduced two new Ryzen 9000 series desktop processors: the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D. These models feature 3D V-cache technology, which boosts gaming performance by increasing the cache size.
AMD claims the 9950X3D delivers 8% better performance in games compared to the previous generation 7950X3D, and is 20% faster than Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K.
Ryzen Z Series for Handheld Gaming PCs
For handheld gaming PCs like the ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go, AMD announced updates to its Ryzen Z series. The Ryzen Z2 Extreme leads the lineup with 8 cores, combining Zen 5 and Zen 5c cores, along with an updated RDNA 3.5 GPU.
The Z2 model is a rebranded Ryzen Z1 Extreme, offering 8 Zen 4 cores and 12 RDNA 3 graphics cores. The new Ryzen Z2 Go features an older Zen 3+ CPU with 4 cores and an RDNA 2 GPU.
New Ryzen 9000HX Series for Gaming Laptops
AMD also revealed new Ryzen 9000HX Series processors for gaming laptops. The Ryzen 9 9955HX3D, the only model in the series with 3D V-cache, leads the range. Other models include the 9955HX with 16 cores and the 9850HX with 12 cores.
More Ryzen Chips and Upcoming Graphics Cards
In addition to these processors, AMD introduced several new Ryzen AI chips and teased its upcoming RDNA 4-based Radeon 9000 series graphics cards, including the Radeon 9070XT and Radeon 9070. These graphics cards will compete with Nvidia’s RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti.
Finally, AMD announced that its next-generation FSR4 technology will use machine learning to improve graphics, similar to Nvidia’s DLSS and Intel’s XeSS.
