Netflix has welcomed Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood back to its platform in January 2025, after it was removed from the North American library in 2022.

This iconic anime, based on Hiromu Arakawa’s manga, tells the story of two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who use alchemy to try to resurrect their mother but end up paying a heavy price.

With Edward losing his leg and Al’s body being destroyed, they embark on a quest to find the Philosopher’s Stone to restore their bodies.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood first aired in 2009 and is renowned for staying true to the original manga’s storyline, making it one of the most beloved anime of all time.

The series is celebrated for its mix of action, comedy, and thought-provoking themes, such as the realities of death, political responsibility, and the cost of lessons learned.

The anime’s accessible storytelling is complemented by a strong English dub, making it a great option for both anime veterans and newcomers. Its soundtrack, featuring both instrumental pieces and J-pop themes, adds emotional depth, with songs like “Trisha’s Lullaby” resonating long after the show ends.

Though Fullmetal Alchemist has a predecessor from 2003, Brotherhood is generally considered the superior adaptation, sticking closely to the manga’s narrative.

While the original series has its merits, Brotherhood is the more widely available and acclaimed version, and it’s the one currently streaming on Netflix.

For anime fans, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood remains a must-watch, offering a compelling mix of adventure, emotion, and philosophical insights.
