Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey to Follow Protagonist’s Struggle to Return Home

Christopher Nolan’s next project, The Odyssey, is set to continue a recurring theme in his filmography: characters embarking on long, difficult journeys to return home.

The film, slated for release on July 17, 2026, is an adaptation of Homer’s epic poem, following Odysseus as he struggles to return to Ithaca after the Trojan War.

Nolan’s films often explore similar themes of characters grappling with the concept of home, such as in Memento, Batman Begins, and Interstellar.

His latest project will continue this trend, but with the added complexity of a well-known, ancient story.

The cast for The Odyssey includes Matt Damon, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron.

While specific roles are yet to be confirmed, some of these actors may play key characters from the poem, such as Penelope, Athena, or Telemachus. The film is described as a “mythic action epic” and will be shot using IMAX film technology.

This will be the first time The Odyssey has been adapted for IMAX, offering a new, immersive experience for audiences.
