Gemini Subscribers Can Now Access ‘2.0 Experimental Advanced’ with Improved Performance

Google has rolled out a new AI model, Gemini-Exp-1206, for Gemini Advanced subscribers.

Branded as “2.0 Experimental Advanced,” the model is available on desktop and mobile web platforms and promises significantly enhanced capabilities for tackling complex tasks.

What’s New with Gemini-Exp-1206?

This new model focuses on delivering improved performance in areas like:

  • Coding: Solving intricate coding challenges.
  • Math: Addressing complex mathematical problems for school or personal use.
  • Reasoning: Offering better logical deductions and solutions.
  • Instruction Following: Crafting detailed, multi-step plans like business strategies.

Despite its advanced capabilities, Google has labeled it as an “early preview,” meaning it may not always perform as expected.

Additionally, it lacks access to real-time information and is incompatible with some Gemini features during its experimental phase.

Availability and Access

Gemini-Exp-1206 is now part of the Gemini Advanced subscription, which costs $19.99 per month under Google One’s AI Premium plan.

Subscribers previously had access to the 1.0 Ultra and 1.5 Pro models. This release hints at Gemini-Exp-1206 potentially being equivalent to a 2.0 Pro or higher model.

What’s Next?

Google plans to release more Gemini 2.0 model sizes in January 2024, with 2.0 Flash becoming widely available for developers. For now, Gemini-Exp-1206 sits atop the Chatbot Arena LLM Leaderboard, showcasing its competitive edge.
