Satellite messaging is coming to Google Messages, offering a new way for users to stay connected even when they’re outside cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.
This feature will automatically appear when your device detects a lack of connectivity, allowing you to send and receive messages via satellite.
A pop-up notification will prompt you to connect to the satellite network, ensuring you’re always able to reach out, even in remote areas.
However, while this feature is promising, there are some limitations. Group chats are unlikely to be supported over satellite connections, as the option to connect does not appear in group messages.
Additionally, satellite messaging requires carrier support, meaning services like T-Mobile’s collaboration with Starlink will be essential to make this feature work.
Once the feature goes live, users will be able to enjoy satellite messaging directly through Google Messages, with no need for a separate app.
