Email users, beware! Sophisticated attacks using AI to create convincing fake emails, websites, and attachments are on the rise.

Kaspersky reports that malicious files are being detected at an alarming rate, with 467,000 daily detections in 2024—a 14% increase from last year. These attacks, mainly targeting Windows users, have seen a sharp increase in Trojans and malware.

As the holiday season approaches, phishing scams are also surging, with over 38 million phishing attempts aimed at online shoppers.

Email platforms like Gmail, Outlook, AOL, and Yahoo are being targeted, and corporate systems are also at risk due to personal devices being used for work-related tasks.

Here’s what you should do to stay safe:

  1. Avoid downloading apps from untrusted sources.
  2. Don’t click links or ads from unknown sources.
  3. Enable 2FA and use strong, unique passwords (consider a password manager).
  4. Install updates regularly to patch security vulnerabilities.
  5. Ignore requests to disable security systems.
  6. Use a reliable security solution to protect your devices.

With email attacks evolving rapidly, especially as cybercriminals use AI for phishing and malware, it’s essential to stay vigilant. This holiday season, make cybersecurity a priority to avoid falling victim to scams.
