YouTube shared a final blog post from former CEO Susan Wojcicki, who passed away unexpectedly in August 2024.
In the post, written in her final weeks, she revealed her shock lung cancer diagnosis in late 2022, despite being in good health and never smoking.
Wojcicki resigned as CEO to focus on her health, while continuing work on various boards and nonprofits.
She also discussed her efforts to support cancer research, particularly lung cancer, which affects women more than any other cancer.
Wojcicki and her husband donated millions to research on early detection and immunotherapy. She called for more attention to the disease, which remains under-researched.
Wojcicki, who joined Google in 1998 and led YouTube from 2014 to 2023, played a major role in the platformโs growth into the creator-driven juggernaut it is today.
