A new report suggests Apple might make a big change in who builds its phone chips. The company might use Intel instead of TSMC to make chips for its 2026 iPhone 18 series.
Right now, TSMC makes Apple’s A18 chips for the iPhone 16. TSMC will likely make next year’s A19 chips too. But for the A20 chips in 2026, Apple might work with Intel instead.
Chinese source Fixed Focus Digital says the A19 chips will use TSMC’s N3P technology, similar to what Qualcomm plans to use. But the A20 chips might use Intel’s 2nm 20A process instead of TSMC’s technology.
Some doubt this news because Intel itself is using TSMC to make its new Arrow Lake computer chips. Other reports say Apple will still use TSMC’s 2nm technology for the A20 chips.
Since the iPhone 18 won’t arrive for about two years, it’s too early to know for sure what Apple will decide.
