Dune: Prophecy Explains Why Harkonnens Changed Over Time

Dune Prophecy

The new TV show “Dune: Prophecy” shows the Harkonnen family looking very different from how they appear in the recent Dune movies. This has sparked questions from fans, but there’s a clear story reason for the change.

In the TV show, which takes place 10,000 years before the movies, the Harkonnens live on a water planet called Lankiveil. The characters Valya and Tula Harkonnen, played by Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, have normal skin tones.

In the Dune movies, the Harkonnens are ghostly pale with shaved heads. This is because they later moved to a different planet called Geidi Prime, which has a black sun. The planet’s unusual environment changed how they look.

The change in appearance matches the story from Dune’s expanded universe. The Harkonnen family moved their power base to Geidi Prime after a war with thinking machines. Their old home, Lankiveil, became less important to the family over time.

This detail shows how the TV series connects to the larger Dune story and explains why the same family looks so different across thousands of years.
