Samsung is working on developing AI-powered phones that could be “radically different” from their current offerings, according to TM Roh, the President of Samsung’s Mobile Experience unit (MX).ย
The company is focusing a significant portion of its research and development efforts on these so-called “AI phones,” which may feature a departure from the traditional rectangular smartphone design.
Roh mentioned that these AI phones would be more “mobile,” suggesting that they could have larger screens, more sensors, or even a different form factor altogether.ย Samsung has already incorporated AI into its recent Galaxy devices, such as the S Pen support in the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold6, which can turn rough sketches into detailed images.
Samsung has also used AI to break down language barriers, with features like real-time voice and text translation.ย Samsung is exploring the integration of AI across various aspects of its products, including accessories like headphones, which could enable language translation.ย
Foldable phones, such as the Galaxy Z Fold series, are well-suited for AI-powered features like interpreter mode due to their dual displays.
While there are some AI devices currently available on the market, none have achieved significant success, suggesting that Samsung is venturing into uncharted territory.ย This ambitious undertaking requires a massive investment in research and development, as the company aims to redefine the future of mobile AI experiences.
