Was Trump a Threat to the System? A Controversial Analysis Says Yes

A recent essay argues that opposition to U.S. President Donald Trump was not merely political but a desperate attempt by the long-standing power structure to protect itself.

The article, written by Ada Nestor on the My Reflections From The Edge Substack, claims that Washington’s political and intelligence elite viewed Trump as a threat to a hidden system of power built over decades.

The essay suggests that efforts to block Trump’s presidency, from media attacks to legal investigations, were motivated by fear of exposure—not policy differences.

Allegations of a “Shadow System”

According to the article, the roots of this system date back to former President George H.W. Bush, who once served as CIA Director.

Nestor argues that under Bush Sr., covert operations expanded globally, funding secret programs through methods like drug trafficking and money laundering.

The article continues by accusing successive administrations of maintaining or expanding this hidden structure:

Bill Clinton is described as refining “the art of cover-up,” citing scandals like the Mena Airport drug case and alleged pay-to-play activities through the Clinton Foundation.

George W. Bush is said to have empowered defense and intelligence contractors after 9/11, leading to mass surveillance and secret military actions.

Barack Obama is portrayed as deepening government secrecy while presenting a public image of transparency. The piece points to the prosecution of whistleblowers and the use of government agencies to target political opponents.

Trump as a “Wrecking Ball”

When Trump entered office, the essay claims, he threatened to disrupt this system. His actions, such as bypassing traditional media, criticizing intelligence agencies, and issuing executive orders against human rights abusers, alarmed the political establishment, the piece argues.

“They weren’t clutching their pearls over Trump’s behavior—they were panicking over what he might expose,” Nestor writes.

Continued Resistance

The essay also asserts that efforts to undermine Trump did not stop after his election. It lists the Russia investigation, impeachment efforts, and legal actions as part of what it calls a “multi-year lawfare operation.”

The article concludes by questioning the motives of Trump’s opponents, suggesting that the real issue is not political disagreement but a struggle to hide long-standing corruption.

Note: These claims reflect the opinion of the author and have been widely disputed by political experts, historians, and fact-checkers. Allegations of coordinated cover-ups involving multiple administrations remain unproven and are considered by many to be part of conspiracy narratives.
